25 Years

Seems like yesterday, but 25 years ago today my older sister, Donna, was killed in a car accident. I was 15. She was 18.

She was on the cusp of amazing things - scheduled to head to college in mere weeks.
That's us on the couch - circa 1974. I'm on the left. She's on the right. Wine Girl is in the middle. Lil Sis was likely napping in her crib. This is one of my all-time favorite shots ever.

I have had a migraine for two days now, and I attributed it to weather and stress. Now I think it's related to the anniversary. What a fucking joke. Who "celebrates" the untimely death of someone? Cheated. I definitely feel cheated but also feel selfish admitting that here. If someone was cheated, it was my sister.

I miss her like it was yesterday.

Death no matter our age.. never leaves us.. no matter the date .. no matter the time.. it is one of the only things that never ebbs and flows.. its a fixture and when we lose a loved one the anniversary of their death is a reminder that it is always there sometimes in small ways sometimes in big ways .. like the miagrain today... or just the feeling... it is hard more so when a young life is snatched away... thinking of you on this day!

Maybe sending a dozen black roses would make you feel better. Some anniversaries are meant to be remembered. by. everyone.

Thinking of you and holding you close to my heart.

It sucks Honey, there are no other words, it just plain sucks.

Sending my love.

I'm so glad you wrote this. People think I'm nuts for remembering Jane's birthday and anniversary of her death still. Not to mention the date my husband died and his birthday. Lord, I think I will never forget even when it feels I'm the only one left on earth who does. And on those days, it feels like the pain never passed.

In the midst of all of these great words, let it be known that I will never again teach math because it's been 23 years. Not 25. *cackling*

Wine Girl corrected me earlier today after she got over the fear that she'd "lost" a few birthdays somewhere in there.

I have the VERY best sisters!

Sometimes it's ok to be selfish.

And anniversaries aren't always celebrated. I prefer the word commemorated. It just means you're remembering... paying tribute to. And from what you've said of your sister, that is well-justified.

Hugs you :)
